How the inspiration for our technologies strategies visualizations originated
At a major healthcare company, an internal venture team needed to:
- Rapidly assess product development opportunities,
and
- Quickly initiate R&D programs or acquisitions based on
those choices
… the team had access to leading consultants and technology strategists and also scanned the world for appropriate tools and processes - they were amazed to discover that no sufficient commercially available technology assessment tools existed.
Dr. Oosta recognized the value of patent mapping as a means to explain complex technology choices to time-strapped executives.
Strategy-focused
visual renderings and reports were constructed as an extension of
standard patent mapping diagrams - these were a huge success, and
facilitated a major acquisition and filled the R&D pipeline to
overflowing.
But, according to the company's top executives, "it
cost too much and took too long!" They went even further and said that
mapping tools were only useful on "big projects."
So, the
challenge was to speed up and simplify technology assessment practices
in order to allow the processes to be useful on all projects - large
and small.
Dr.
Oosta decided to address these challenges regarding improving the methods and software automation of them, and retired
to pursue the task.
Oval
Ideas was formed to evolve and deliver a new system for rapidly
assessing technology opportunities and facilitating technology
selection decisions
During the
past three plus years we discovered that many other leading corporations, both large and small,
were looking for a similar breakthrough solution.
Oval Ideas has engaged in-depth with several top global technology strategy organizations
- who have invested heavily for years to earn top tier
global technology competitive intelligence and strategy
credentials…
and who had acquired and experienced most of the available tools and consulting services… and they too had not yet found an effective and easy way to break through the data transformation barriers
we shared with them our prototyped solution ideas - and they realized they finally found the right approach and platform for implementation.
The result of these collaborations is the successful deployment of this toolset and method
